I love Chai Tea, so I decided to try to make my own based on this Chai Tea recipe. I used an English Breakfast tea for my black tea. I think it needed a milder black tea with less flavor, but in general it turned out well. If you want more or less sugar, it’s easier to make with less and then add.

Chai Tea

Ingredients:

5 cup water
1 cup milk
3-inch stick cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
2 whole cloves
4 cardamom pods, slightly crushed so seed shows
1/4 tsp black peppercorns
8 tsp sugar
2 tbsp loose tea leaves OR 4 tea bags of black tea

Combine water, milk, spices, and sugar. Stir occasionally and heat until boiling.

Remove briefly from heat. Add tea and bring back to heat, boiling a second time.

Turn heat down to low and simmer 5 minutes.

Strain and serve hot. Makes about 4 cups of tea.
